Hey y’all! I’m Isaiah, and I’m from the United States. More specifically, South Carolina. Down here, we’ve got fog-filled dawns, silvery Spanish moss spilling over live oaks, and the eerie blue hour creeping in across dilapidated graveyards. We’ve got air so thick and wet you can punch a hole in it. The terrain itself almost breathes. This environment is ripe for movie material and has inspired a particular kind of storytelling steeped in legend, myth, and pure bombast. According to those tales, we’ve got catfish big enough to swallow cars whole, and they live in lakes with entire towns resting dead at the bottom. If you believe the stories, we’ve also got “boo hags” that’ll tear off your skin, Bigfoot stomping around the low country woods, and the Lizard Man, who, as far as I can tell, just looks freaky.

The South has a lot of ghosts that continue to haunt its present, and this is where I was raised. I spent much of my teenagehood smoking cigarettes around abandoned buildings, making out with girlfriends on creepy trails choked with poison ivy, and, of course, trying to scare the crap out of myself by watching horror films. My love of movies grew from a combination of Friday night double-features with my family and being totally enthralled by how stories are created and then passed down through generations. As a kid, I would run to the entertainment section of our local library and soak up as much knowledge as I could about every movie I could find. One day, I found a book about horror films and opened it to a close-up still of Linda Blair in full Exorcist makeup staring back at me devilishly. That moment frightened me, but it also awakened an intense fascination with a genre I would grow to love for the rest of my life.

I think horror films get down to the root of who we are and allow us to examine even the ugliest parts of human nature honestly and creatively. Life is hard and often confusing, and horror movies give us a chance to see our fears actualized, and often defeated, on screen. It’s satisfying for us to see Jason Voorhees get his come-uppance again and again . . . and again! And it is affirming to see these fears acknowledged and tackled through the visions of countless horror directors, actors, make-up artists, producers, writers, and more.

It’s satisfying for us to see Jason Voorhees get his come-uppance again and again . . . and again…and…

In my articles, I hope to share with you exciting new films, cult classics, and rarely-seen gems representing all the sub-genres of horror that I love: creature features, slashers, grindhouse films, horror comedy, supernatural horror, giallo, zombie flicks, found footage, and more! I want to extoll the virtues of the “Final Girl” and discuss our favorite boogeymen. I want to look at up-and-coming filmmakers and examine how they are moving the genre forward. And I’m dying to talk about Critters because those little fluffballs are so stinking cute! Just be careful or they’ll bite off your toes.

ReSee hopes to strengthen and broaden the community of movie lovers, which is something I think resonates for so many of us. I’m honored to be part of it, and I’m stoked to be able to talk about the movies we love together!
