Leni Riefenstahl (1902-2003) is considered one of the most controversial figures in film history. The director of propaganda films such as "Triumph of the Will" and "Olympia" always tried to deny her ideological affinity with the Nazi regime. Now, director Andres Veiel (BEUYS) and TV journalist Sandra Maischberger have been granted access to Riefenstahl's personal estate for the first time: 700 boxes of private films and photos, letters, and recorded telephone conversations. The material provides a deep insight into Riefenstahl's life and work—and sheds new light on the director's stale attempts at self-justification. The film is also a clever analysis of Riefenstahl's visual aesthetic, which is still present today in the staging of totalitarian power. "A film of the moment in times of the rise of right-wing populists, a triumph of the Enlightenment!" (FAZ)
