Rancher Ennis del Mar and rodeo rider Jack Twist are hired on Brokeback Mountain to protect a flock of sheep from poachers and predators over the summer. In the harsh and rugged solitude of the mountains, more than just camaraderie soon develops between the two – they fall in love. But given the narrow-minded moral standards of the conservative US backwoods, Ennis and Jack are forced to go their separate ways. The two marry, start families – and yet can't get away from each other. For many years, they can only give free rein to their feelings in secret – far out in the mountains. Until Jack makes one last, desperate attempt to fight for their shared future...
