The celebrated conductor Thibaut Desormeaux is at the peak of his career when he suddenly develops leukemia. Only a bone marrow donation could save his life. Then comes the next shock: he has been adopted. The search for biological relatives leads him to Jimmy, who works in a school kitchen and plays the trombone in the brass band of a working-class town. The two brothers couldn't be more different. They only agree on one thing: their love of music. Thibaut is impressed by his brother's musical talent. He wants to right the injustice of their fate, to give his brother the one chance he never had: to develop his talent, follow his heart, and win a national competition with the small orchestra.

Director Emmanuel Courcol ("A Triumph") stages this tragicomedy with sensitivity and a feel for the subtle nuances. "The Quiet and the Big Tones" premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and was praised for its touching narrative and authentic portrayal of its characters.
