**During the screening, the lights remain on. **Mrs. Flax is anything but settled. Whenever a romance comes to an end, she moves somewhere new. Her daughters each cope with their restless mother in their own way: Charlotte seeks refuge in faith, while her little sister is a devoted swimmer. The family's latest home is a small New England town, where Mrs. Flax falls for the warm-hearted Lou. Charlotte, too, will soon discover, beyond all prayers, that earthly affection has a way of finding you.
