In 310 days of production, director Fritz Lang created Metropolis using 36,000 extras and 200,000 costumes with a then-gigantic budget of five million Reichsmarks, transforming a universal and timeless theme into visual storytelling that remains captivating today. This landmark film represents the pinnacle of German silent cinema produced in Berlin-Babelsberg, capturing the era's fascination with electricity, automobiles, airplanes, and soaring skyscrapers.
