For years, American Lilian Steiner (Jodie Foster) has called Paris home. There, she has not only put down roots but also earned an excellent reputation as a skilled psychotherapist. But then her patient Paula (Virginie Efira) dies. According to the police, it was suicide, and this throws Lilian completely off balance. However, she has doubts about the official version of Paula's death. So the therapist begins her own investigation, together with her still grieving ex-husband Gabriel (Daniel Auteuil). And it quickly becomes clear: the matter is not as straightforward as the police would have you believe.
