Jeff (Adam Driver) and Emily (Mayim Bialik) visit their father (Tom Waits) in New Jersey. He's been living alone in a cabin there since his wife's death and is trying to convince his children that it's possible to live that way. Of course, Jeff and Emily see that the (dis)order of the place tells a different story. Timothea (Cate Blanchett) and Lilith (Vicky Krieps) travel to Dublin to visit their mother (Charlotte Rampling). And although the two are now adults with their own lives, the sisters still suffer under this oppressively dominant figure. In Paris, twins Skye (Indya Moore) and Billy (Luka Sabbat) have to clear out the apartment of their parents, who died in a plane crash. Looking through old photo albums finally makes them realize just how estranged their own parents really were all their lives...
