Federico Fellini's debut international success, *I Vitelloni*, tells the story of Fausto, a charming womanizer in the coastal town of Rimini whose carefree lifestyle comes to an abrupt end when his pregnant girlfriend Sandra, newly crowned Miss Sirena, forces him into marriage. After a honeymoon in Rome, Fausto finds himself working in a religious goods shop, where his elegant demeanor and irresistible charm prove more suited to flirting with customers than performing mundane duties like cleaning and dusting. His wandering eye soon leads him to pursue even his boss's wife, setting the stage for comedic chaos.

The film earned the Golden Lion at the 1953 Venice International Film Festival and received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 1957. Drawing from Fellini's own experiences, *I Vitelloni* combines irony and melancholy to explore the self-deceptions, amusements, and idleness of young men in a small Italian town. Critics praised it as a masterful study enriched with subtle humor that added a new dimension to Italian neorealism, with one contemporary review noting Fellini's unique talent as a "melancholic humorist" whose wit is tempered by underlying emotional depth.
