Timothée Chalamet plays (and sings!) the young Bob Dylan – between guitar, revolt and self-assertion.
Newport, 1965. A young man with wild hair and sunglasses picks up his electric guitar – and is booed. It's Bob Dylan, who is just about to go from being the poster boy of the folk scene to an unconventional artist. This is precisely where Like a Complete Unknown begins: at a turning point that made pop history. The film follows Dylan in the days and weeks before and after this legendary performance. Between clubs, studios, and hotel rooms, between expectations, doubts, and the attempt to resist being co-opted. Not a classic artist portrait, but an intensive look at a young man who is forging his own path – even if it causes controversy.
The film was directed by James Mangold ("Walk the Line").Also starring: Edward Norton as folk icon Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Dylan's partner Sylvie Russo (inspired by Suze Rotolo), and Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez.
Like a Complete Unknown premiered as a special gala at the 2025 Berlinale, shortly after receiving eight Oscar nominations – including for Best Picture and Chalamet as the leading actor.
