Longing for a brighter future, two Senegalese teenagers embark on a journey from West Africa to Italy. However, between their dreams and reality lies a labyrinth of checkpoints, the Sahara Desert, and the vast waters of the Mediterranean.

Inspired by true accounts, award-winning director Matteo Garrone tells the story of two friends, Seydou and Moussa, on their dangerous odyssey from Senegal to Europe. At the 80th Venice International Film Festival, IO CAPITANO was awarded the Silver Lion for “Best Director”.

We are showing the film in cooperation with Project ELPIDA e.V. Before the Screening will be a discussion with activists on the current situation at Europe's external borders and the migration policy situation.
