Hello movie lovers! My name is Rashko and I’m ReSee’s Event Manager. I joined ReSee because I believe in what it represents: an inclusive community where movie enthusiasts come together to enjoy the wonderful art of cinema. This is exactly what the role of an Event Manager at ReSee entails - creating more and more ways to bring our community together for one-of-a-kind evenings at the cinema.
While online platforms help us stay up-to-date with what we want to watch and connect with other film enthusiasts around the world, at ReSee we still believe that it is the in-person experiences which truly help us bond with others who share the same passion. I will be growing our community by hosting memorable movie nights that cater to the various interests of movie-goers. So, if you’re in Berlin, I’m very much looking forward to meeting you soon at a ReSee event!
I’m writing to you on a classic gloomy, rainy Berlin December day, and while the weather might be a bit sad, it's definitely the perfect time of the year to get cozy and watch as many good films as possible.
As a kid, I’m part of the generation that still watched movies on those big cassettes. My cousin and I would go to the local movie cassette store, get the latest animated children’s movie, and go to one of our houses to enjoy it. Our taste back then was, of course, very simple, yet classic: we watched all the old Disney movies, Home Alone, and so on. Only a few years later, I clearly remember watching Guillermo del Toro’s Pan's Labyrinth (2006), which opened my eyes to what else was out there. I was 10 years old, and it instantly became my favorite movie. The historical setting on the backdrop of World War 2, the magical creatures, and the difficult family relationships all resonated with me deeply. I still appreciate Pan's Labyrinth much more than del Toro’s most successful movie, the Best-Picture-winning, The Shape of Water (2017).

As I grew older I developed a particular love for camerawork in movies. I became fascinated with how the stories are told by camera movements. This is such a powerful skill that I wish to posses: connecting the dots, making the scenes feel more real and alive, and invoking strong feelings and ideas in your audience, all thanks to the way a picture is filmed. My favorite cinematographer that everyone should know about is Emmanuel Lubezki, who worked on The Tree of Life, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), and The Revenant.
Before writing this introduction, I actually didn’t really have a list of Top 10 movies. So I used this opportunity to think about my favorite films and put together list! It’s pretty fluid and in no particular order. Just going through it, I again realized my appreciation for great cinematography as most of these films have been recognized in some way for their camera work and storytelling.

Big fan of movies, and a huge of matching my football jerseys to furniture 🇯🇲💺
As far as actors go, I wouldn’t say I am a fan of one specific actor. Sure, I like some actors more than others, but mostly based on the phase of their career that they’re in, or by their most recent performances. So, currently, I really like Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, and Lupita Nyong'o. From the male actors, my favorites are Mahershala Ali, Jack Nicholson, and Adam Driver. And last but not least, good directing is important, of course, but great directing? Absolutely life-changing. My favorite directors are David Fincher and Christopher Storer, who is the brain behind the recent hit series The Bear.
I love talking with new friends about our common appreciation for film, so I hope you saw something you like as well! And if you’re wondering why I like a particular movie or an actor, feel free to let me know! I’m really excited to be part of this inclusive ReSee Movies community and to exchange thoughts, feelings, and opinions with all of you.
