Reel Love feat. Past Lives (OmeU): Beware the Closure You Seek

Whether because we moved to a new country, became an empty nesters, or simply just changed how we view ourselves, we all have "past lives". But can we really call them "past" if, even while lying dormant, they still have such a large impact on who we are, how we feel, and who we love?

In our next chapter of Reel Love, we’re stepping into tender, uncharted territory with Past Lives, a film that questions what still lingers after love, what haunts us from the paths we didn’t take, and whether “closure” is ever truly possible.

Our theme for the evening, “Beware the closure you seek,” invites you to sit with the discomfort of unfinished stories. Sometimes, the answers we chase can’t heal us; even worse, they could totally unravel any peace we’ve built. And yet, the pull of the past is irresistible: the city you left, the person you might have been, the love you almost chose.

After the screening, we’ll gather for a relaxed, heart-forward discussion about what it means to carry your past lives—romantic or otherwise—within you. Should you reach back for answers, or let sleeping ghosts lie? Do our former selves ever really disappear, or are they quietly steering the present?
