Do you know those people who can talk about a particular subject for hours on end and never get bored? Well, that’s exactly how I would describe myself when it comes to movies. I love everything about film, from the production to the dialogue. Even waiting in line for the popcorn fills me with excitement.

That’s why I’m ecstatic to be a part of ReSee, where we are all free to share our opinions and bond over our shared love of film. But before we get into my favourite films, recommendations and discussions, allow me to introduce myself:

Hi, I’m Hannah from Barbados and my passion for film stems from my love of quality entertainment and the conversation it sparks!

Movies are an artistic representation of the realities we face every day. Even if they take place on a faraway planet or in a world where magic exists, the good ones are relatable and help us discover truths about ourselves. They give us a sense of self, especially when we see our culture, race, or community represented on the big screen.

Some films aim to leave us feeling terrified or emotionally exposed. Others are designed to inspire us, or to make us laugh until our stomachs are sore. That’s the beauty of movies; they all have different intentions, which means there’s something for everyone and you can flip-flop from psychological thrillers to cheesy rom-coms whenever you please.

Above all else, I appreciate being part of a community where everyone is united by a love of movies. I hope that you enjoy reading my articles as much as I enjoy writing them and I can’t wait to hear your opinions and perspectives!

Get to know me better with the following Q & A:

1. What’s a fan favourite that you still haven’t seen?

Now, don’t judge me too harshly for this one, but I still haven’t watched Zack Snyder's Justice League 🙈 I’m not the biggest Marvel nor DC fan, but since everyone and their mom couldn’t stop talking about this movie, I’ve added it to my ReSee watchlist.

2. Would you say you have a favorite genre?

My favorite genres are definitely psychological thrillers and horror, and Psycho is my favorite film of this genre! Everything about it is brilliant from the cast to the storyline and the overall atmosphere which Alfred Hitchcock created.

When I’m having a tiring day, I usually fall back on a well done animation or comedy (photo from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)

3. What are some films you feel really need to be seen in theaters?

Due to the score, cinematography and overall cinematic experience, these are some films which need to be experienced in theaters. Some of my favorite theater experiences were for Psycho (of course), The Prestige, and, Home Alone. From the laughs that erupt throughout the theatre to the incredible surround sound, these films deserve to be enjoyed in the theatre.

4. What are your comfort films?

When I’m having a tiring day, I usually fall back on a well-done animation or a comedy. They’re often hilarious and have a life lesson sprinkled in, which is sometimes exactly what I need in order to unwind. I enjoy watching movies like The Emperor's New Groove or Game Night, just to forget about my troubles and be in another world for a couple hours.

5. What are your favorite snacks to eat at the cinema?

A movie isn’t complete without something to snack on while you enjoy all the twists and turns showcased on the big screen. Well obviously, nothing beats delicious, buttery popcorn, but I also enjoy munching on some candy like gummy bears, chocolate, or Sour Patch Kids. Tasty snacks and a good movie go hand in hand, don’t you agree?

Discussing the arts online through articles and reviews is something I love to do, so I hope you’ll enjoy getting my perspective on tons of movies that have enraptured me over the years.
