Contributor Introduction – Luke 🇮🇪
- Luke Bradley
Hello fellow lovers of cinema! My name is Luke and I’m from Ireland. Like many of you, I’m an avid movie watcher. Growing up, I had a great love for stories which naturally led to a love of film. Like many Irish people, I was raised on a steady diet of British and Irish cinema (topped with a hefty serving of Hollywood, of course). As I got older and my tastes broadened, I developed an appetite for cinema and culture from other regions of the world. I appreciate other cultures because they make me question my own way of doing things, and they help me find new appreciation for things I may have taken for granted.
I love movies because they offer a glimpse into the cultures and the minds of people from all walks of life. While movies often present things a bit overdramatically, they offer deep and complex perspectives on real-life issues like love, happiness, or dealing with loss. I love to write about movies because they are one of the few things I can talk about all day without getting bored. Movies are full of incredible and interesting stories, a cinematic reflection on the world in which we live. I approach movies not as a movie expert but as a fan and a lover of cinema. I hope you will enjoy my articles and leave your own thoughts; after all, here at ReSee we want to hear from you, the fans who make the industry go round.

Q: In a couple of sentences, how would you describe your taste in movies?
A: I’m a sucker for a good drama. I like movies that make me reflect on my own life. I also love dark comedies. Some of my favorites include American Psycho, Trainspotting, and Withnail & I. I am fascinated by the idea that a movie can be deeply depressing and absolutely hilarious at the same time.
Q: What were your favorite childhood movies?
A: As a child I had a particular fondness for action movies, many of which I was definitely too young to be watching! I loved sci-fi classics like The Terminator and Predator, but my favorite action series was definitely Rambo. I also had a great love for Star Wars; like so many other children I was completely enthralled by the world George Lucas created. Last but not least, I was absolutely crazy about the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Those movies are just so much fun.

Q: Who is your all-time favorite actor/actress?
A: Clichéd as it may be, I have to say Robert De Niro. The main reason being that I could watch him in anything. From playing Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull to Rupert Pupkin in The King of Comedy, De Niro has the kind of range actors and audiences dream of.
Q: What is your go-to movie when you need cheering up?
A: Sometimes a good comedy is all you need. My go-to feel-good movie is probably Dumb and Dumber. It’s chock-full of amazing one-liners, and Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are on the top of their game here.

Q: Which movie, from any era of cinema history, would you most like to ReSee in a theater near you?
A: This is a tough one but I think I would have to go with Casablanca. To me Casablanca is movie magic. It is what I would show somebody who wanted to understand the appeal of movies, or better yet, the appeal of old movies. It really has it all; it’s glamorous, it’s ugly, it’s funny, it’s depressing, it has action and romance… it’s classic Hollywood at its finest.
What is your unpopular movie opinion?
Zack Snyder’s Watchmen is phenomenal. There, I said it!
As a parting gift to the reader, recommend a movie you love that they may not have seen.
I cannot recommend the French movie The Intouchables (not to be confused with Brian de Palma’s prohibition-era classic The Untouchables) enough. It is heartwarming and hilarious in the best possible way. It’ll make you laugh and cry. It is a beautiful film about triumph against adversity and friendship’s ability to lift the human spirit. Check it out, you won’t regret it!
